There are two parts to answer that question correctly. The TERM "dueling pianos" came from the 1890's when ragtime players of the era would challenge each other in a DUEL on stage to see who had the fastest twenty fingers or earn the most tips.
The CONCEPT of Dueling Pianos originated in the 1950's at Pat O'Briens in New Orleans. There were three ladies named Mercedes, Connie Kay, and Sara Belle "Sue" Wheeler who trailblazed the concept and were the pioneers of modern day Dueling Pianos. In 1986 Alley Cats (in the Dallas Alley of Texas) would round out what we see in Dueling Pianos today with college fight songs, band sets, and roasts.
If you've been to a Howl at The Moon or New York New York in Vegas, it's very similar to that (Minus the dirty language. More on that later). Besides all the laughing and dancing we create, our players take REQUESTS from your guests and go back and forth playing them, while also using our experience to keep the room energy up. Within the show your guests can also request someone to be ROASTED for their birthday, promotion, anniversary etc. We can even use the tips that generally get attached to the requests to 100% go toward your charity or the bride and groom. It can be a clever and covert way to raise money for what matters to you.
Our experience points to 3 hours being the perfect mix. Keep in mind, we don't take breaks unless you have annoucements or awards to give out. That said, we have done shows that lasted six ours. Our founder actually plays 24 Hours non-stop once a year for various charities. So there's that!
How loud can we say YES in written form? Our stage is YOUR stage. And nothing makes us happier than those moments when our clients share it with us.
That's a fair question. Here is the answer. Like we mentioned earlier, DUELING is just the term. The actual CONCEPT of Dueling is why 1 player can still give a Dueling Piano Show. The energy, the bits, roasts and toasts and most of all request playing is still in this smaller show. It just happens to be the most affordable because it doesn't require as many players and equipemnt. But make no mistake, our "one player" we use for these types of shows can pack a rockin' punch every bit as good as any dueling team you'll find.
We LOVE this question. Why? Becaue it shows how versatile and unique Dueling Pianos really is. We can play 3 hours of any type of genre or decade you can think of. We have done shows that were specifcic Sock-Hop 50's, Rat Pack, 80' hair bands, 90's country or grunge or even Disney Songs. We were once challenged at an event to play an hour of TV tunes or Cartoons. PS: We have the video to prove it 😊
The best singalong songs are the uptempo party songs you sing in the shower, scream in the car, or turn the volume up on the radio. If you love it, we love it.
For starters we know how to play pretty much any song that has won or been nominated for a Grammy. So your party can interact with us by making any song request they want. You control the set-list and get amazed in the process. The singing along, the dance-offs, hilarous toast and roast are legendary and unique to this concept.
While we mostly focus on Colorado and it's surrounding states, we have played from San Francisco to Washington DC and many places in between.
Not us, not ever! Many of the bar show versions of Dueling around the country can get r-rated, Dueling Pianos Road Show knows how to get your guest highly energized, rocking and laughing without the "crutch" of being filthy.
